Hypothyroidism has ruined my life!

Updated: Apr 7

This may not be a "get-up and shout-out message" for anyone who has struggled with this problem, but I feel for you. And you are not alone.

The struggle is real!

I know I have hesitated to talk about this, but it needs to be said.

If you have hypothyroidism, you know that the struggle is real. Symptoms include, but not limited to: 1. Irregular heartbeat - your thyroid is responsible for regulating your heart rhythm.

2. Hair thinning/ hair loss - Your thyroid is responsible for the growth of your hair.

3. Weight gain - Your thyroid helps regulate your metabolism.

4. Weight loss resistance - This means, that no matter how much you exercise or eat healthy; it will make little to no difference until you address the root of your problem, which is your thyroid.

And once you look into conventional medicine, you will realize that even big pharma doesn't have all the answers. When I was first diagnosed with T4 hypothyroidism, I was prescribed a medication called: levothyroxine which, to my surprise; is known to cause weight gain. Well, that defeats the purpose, doesn't it? There are many people I know who are on thyroid medication who are overweight or extremely overweight. What does this say about big pharma's solution?

My other options of other pharmaceuticals, which cause weight loss, also cause temporary hair loss. I didn't want to make my already thinning hair even thinner. It's bad enough I have already suffered hair loss.

I was called fat

At this time, very few people knew about my condition. I posted a video around 3 years ago, talking about what my channel was about. I got some pretty nasty responses due to discussing some of my stances. So they decided to zero in on my weight. How disrespectful can you be?

You can watch the full video here:

No better insult to give to a lady than calling them a fat cow, right? What kind of world are we living in? They, since then; erased their repugnant comment. And I think that was the right thing to do. But you can't take those words back once they are said. The damage has already been done.

I'm tempted to say:

"Fat can slim down, but ugly just can't be fixed."

I know this may not sound like the "Christian" thing to say. But ugly is as ugly does. And you have an ugly heart! Do you feel proud of yourself when you look in the mirror? Does that make you feel better about yourself? We all know that hate doesn't come from a happy place. Hate doesn't come from someone who is loving life.

When did I look in the mirror asking myself: "Is there truth to what they are saying? Am I really that fat?" I begin to notice how far I've come from where I was at. I had successfully lost 30 pounds, even with my condition and that my friend is no easy task.

I've worked hard to strive to be better every single day. But they just don't get that, do they? They just don't understand all the hard work and sacrifice I put into my weight loss. This is sometimes hard to take because people don't realize when you are doing your best to take care of yourself and are not careless.

Unfortunately, it's the people who don't take care of themselves that give people with legitimate health conditions a bad rep. No joke!

Losing weight with hypothyroidism is no walk in the park. Believe me. But if you are a public figure or an artist who is giving your gift to the world, know that people are going to take note of these things. And if you have a health condition; realize there is some sort of hate coming for it. It comes with the territory. So if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the public eye. That's my best advice. But is this truly what I wanted to do? To give up on my dream? Do I really want to hide my talent in the sand over not looking or being perfect in the public eye according to mainstream media expectations? And being disparaged for it? Should I really give these people power over my life? The answer is no, of course not. So what now?

The pressure to be thin and perfect in the media.

This is what the public has been indoctrinated to expect from artists who are famous, public figures, singers, artists, and actors. The media influence has caused us to measure ourselves against unrealistic expectations and even we have. We have given into the deception that artists have to be absolutely flawless to be qualified to perform or have an audience. Take a look.

And of course, with every criticism, there is at least one ounce of truth... right? Of course, there is. But there are also lies!

As it has been stated repeatedly:

"If you are going to put yourself in front of an audience, at least show a good example by being in shape, and encouraging health and fitness. We want our women and girls to be encouraged to reflect a healthy lifestyle".

That's right. We do. But suffering from certain conditions can sometimes be an obstacle. Hypothyroidism is no exception. Your thyroid is responsible for your hair growth, heart rate, healthy skin, healthy weight and metabolism, and a whole lot of other factors. And if not dealt with, it can become life-threatening. And if it worsens it will prevent you from losing weight no matter how much exercise or dieting you do.

But when you do consider dieting, you should also consider whether the food you are buying is what you believe it is. Even the mainstream media now admits that Americans have been tricked into buying fake food for decades.

Wow, if only Americans had an agency that could protect them. We could even call it the Food and drug administration (FDA). That’s a catchy name.

Oh wait! They are too busy doing nothing! So how can we determine what is real food with real nutrients our bodies need and what is not? We have been misinformed for years! Even by doctors and the weight loss industry! And once you learn that it is all about profits, you will begin to question everything that had been told to you. We've been lied to, guys!

Hypothyroidism symptoms, hypothyroidism treatment, causes of hypothyroidism, hypothyroidism diagnosis, hypothyroidism medication, hypothyroidism diet, hypothyroidism natural remedies, hypothyroidism and weight gain, hypothyroidism and fatigue, hypothyroidism and hair loss, hypothyroidism and depression, hypothyroidism in women, hypothyroidism in men, hypothyroidism tests, hypothyroidism supplements, hypothyroidism lifestyle changes, hypothyroidism prevention, hypothyroidism complications, hypothyroidism support groups

Yes, I have struggled with hypothyroidism through my entire young adulthood. Naturopathic doctors are not cheap, and conventional doctors only give you replacement hormones instead of getting to the root cause of it. So financially speaking, it has not been easy to find a solution. And who has the solution? There is so much false information out there. I have spent thousands on medications that don't work. What am I to do? But something inside me tells me: You can't give up.

Here is a book of Herbal Remedies I discovered. And if you are suffering from illness, it is helpful to gain the knowledge 'they' don't want you to know about.

Addressing the fat acceptance movement.

Sorry Cosmopolitan... but this is NOT healthy.

Fat acceptance movement, body positivity movement, embracing body diversity, challenging weight stigma, promoting self-love regardless of size, advocating for fat rights, ending fatphobia, celebrating all body shapes and sizes, plus-size activism, size inclusivity movement, fat liberation movement, redefining beauty standards, combating weight discrimination, promoting health at every size, fat activism, embracing fatness, destigmatizing obesity, promoting body autonomy, advocating for size diversity in media

There is this other side of the extreme that is trying to normalize obesity. And I am in no way trying to justify this either. Imagine thinking this is healthy.

Think about it:

If it was normal, it would not need to be normalized... would it?

Cosmopolitan magazine has done just that. Trying to normalize obesity and saying it's healthy as if it were something that should be accepted. I'm sorry to say, but obesity is not perceived as attractive or healthy no matter which way you paint it. That is the die-hard truth. This is the real world, snowflakes. Either learn to live in it or melt.

But Sonya, I love and accept myself just the way I am. Who are you to judge me?

I am going to say that there are real people like me who have underlying health conditions that need to address their health problems. They have real problems. And if you are one, realize it is not your fault. On the other hand, I'm not going to sugarcoat these things for you, either. This is the reality of what you will be faced with in the world. Life is hard. There will be bumps in the road. This world isn't all sunshine and rainbows. And it will beat you down and keep you there... if you let it. So stop letting it!

I don't judge people per se. But we do have to learn to make the right judgments. In this, I will do what is best for my overall health. And I encourage others to do the same.

"If you want to feel good about yourself, it is impossible to feel good about yourself when you are doing something that is self-destructive. Also, self-destructive behaviors that result in damage, dehabilitation, or disfigurement of the body... that's never going to be perceived as beautiful."

-Meme Roth

I am a witness that being overweight is a not so happy place to be. And if it is not dealt with, it can cause other health problems that can lead to other degenerative diseases or premature death. Obesity is unhealthy. There is no way of getting around this. And in America, the food companies want to make and keep us fat.

They have scientifically figured out how to make the average person overweight. Over half the American population is overweight or obese. We need to address this problem.

It is up to you to do your own research on this. And I would start by reading Kevin Treudeau's "The Weight Loss Cure They Don't Want You To Know About," which has helped me to lose those extra 30 1b. But if you have a thyroid problem, you need to address that first.

Have you ever seen someone in their 80s who is obese? Me either. You get the point. What I am suggesting is to address this, not to accept this. There is a better solution than giving up altogether and not addressing the root cause of your overweight problem. So this is by no means to excuse destructive behavior or not addressing your underlying health condition. But this is indeed to help people see that it is a real struggle that also comes with certain health conditions and require real medical solutions.

Fat-shaming... Is it really necessary?

Some people say it works. Some people say it is not helpful. You have to realize, there are real health conditions that cause these things. Obesity is unhealthy. This is true. We get that. Some people have problems that are difficult to overcome. To people who aren't overweight or who don't understand, being overweight can seem like a simple problem ("Hey, you're just not eating right or exercising enough!") with a simple solution ("Hey, just eat less or exercise more!"). That's not helpful, and it can often make people feel like the extra weight is their fault — which of course it's not.

If losing weight were simple, no one would be in a situation to stay overweight. So it's natural to feel frustrated, angry, or upset.

Yes, I have been ridiculed for it. Yes, I am doing something about it. It's a real struggle that isn't overcome overnight. It takes time, motivation, and making better decisions for yourself.

It is amazing how other people outside of America view us. The "fat" stereotype is always the first thing people say about us. I hate stupid stereotypes. But isn't there at least one ounce of truth to that?

Many people outside of America either don't understand or don't realize why America's health is in such a decline, and much of the time, neither do many of the Americans who have lived in this country for generations. Many outside of America are so quick to judge us and mock us by calling us all fat whales which is so insulting to Americans! What a world we live in! Wouldn't you get sick of this stereotype being slapped on your country and your people? You'd be thinking:

"Not all of us are morbidly obese! Yet, the whole world believes it."

But that doesn't change the fact that most Americans are either overweight or obese. And the whole world knows it. Here is the proof!

So let's prove them wrong by getting in shape, addressing our health conditions, and becoming the best version of ourselves we can be. Don't let other people decide who you are. Stop buying into the mainstream media propaganda machine and do your own research.

The struggle with hypothyroidism as an artist:

I know if I am going to be in the public eye, I need to encourage a healthy lifestyle.

On my weight loss journey right now, I've been suffering from hypothyroidism which causes weight loss resistance. I am working on getting the treatment I need.

This has been what has kept me from actually making more videos and putting myself out there. It's hard to deal with the criticism, but now; it's getting to the point where I am going to have to stop worrying about what others think, and do what God has called me to do anyway. I can't let this be an obstacle. Life is full of flaws and bumps in the road. Life will never be perfect. That doesn't mean we should give up on our dreams.

You don't have to wait until you are perfect to follow your dreams!

Confession: I was afraid to put myself out there due to a weight loss resistance problem that I had a hard time overcoming and didn’t want to be scrutinized for it. We are living in an era where people expect perfection. But perfection doesn’t exist! The moment you realize that perfect doesn’t exist you can truly be happy.

Don’t let life’s problems define whether or not you can do something. Defy all odds. Strive to be the best and healthiest version of yourself you can be! And the rest is history!

How can we put ourselves out there without being labeled as lazy no good person who doesn't care about their condition? You just have to do only what you can do. The truth is, I've never cared more about it. And though I have tried to drop the pounds quite a few times, and have failed miserably; I am going to figure this thing out. If anything, I'll have to try something different than what I've tried before, and that is, to doctor the issue in a different manner, and to find the right treatment I need to overcome hypothyroidism.

You'll be seeing more blogs from me in the future and I will be posting my progress on this. Hopefully, it will help encourage someone else, too.

Understanding Thyroid Needs

If you have an under-active thyroid (hypothyroidism) as I did, it is likely that you also have been suffering from symptoms of estrogen dominance, PCOS, Insulin resistance, weight gain and weight loss resistance, fatigue, and irregular or heavy menstrual cycles. I recommend you get a doctor diagnosis before taking any supplements as every person's reason for an under-active thyroid or an overactive thyroid will differ. Therefore, your needs will differ. Here are a list of supplements that can help with certain problems that cause hypothyroidism, estrogen dominance, and PCOS.

1. Iodine - This is an element that is needed for the production of thyroid hormone. The body does not make iodine, so it is an essential part of your diet. Iodine is found in various foods and can also be taken as a supplement. If you do not have enough iodine in your body, you cannot make enough thyroid hormone. Also be wary that if someone has too much iodine in their system, it can have an adverse effect with hyperthyroidism, which is an overabundance of thyroid hormone production.

2. Progesterone - This facilitates the action of thyroid hormone, while estrogen is antagonistic to thyroid hormone. So, if a woman has low progesterone and/or a high level of estrogen, it is more difficult for the thyroid hormone to do its job. The symptoms of hypothyroidism may occur because of estrogen dominance.

Natural remedies for raising low progesterone levels include:

  1. Increasing your intake of vitamins B and C, which are necessary for maintaining progesterone levels.

  2. eating more foods with zinc, like shellfish.

  3. controlling stress levels, since your body releases cortisol instead of progesterone when you're stressed.

  4. It can also be taken as a supplement.

3. Selenium - This influences how well your liver clears estrogen from your bloodstream. When selenium levels are in the healthy range it means your body can break down estrogen into various compounds that can be voided from the body and prevent estrogen dominance. Estrogen dominance inhibits Thyroid action and lowers the rate of metabolism of the Body. Natural Progesterone inhibits Estrogen action. The symptoms of Hypothyroidism may also occur because of Estrogen Dominance (deficiency of Progesterone).

4. Vitamin B 12 - The best-known biological roles of vitamin B12 are cellular metabolism and DNA synthesis, but it may also play a part in thyroid health. The exact nature of the role is not yet fully understood, but B12 deficiency is very common in cases of hypothyroidism.

One study of hypothyroid patients found that those with B12 deficiency showed immediate improvement upon supplementation. Confusingly, hypothyroid patients without this deficiency also showed remarkable improvement after receiving B12 supplementation. B12 and thyroid health seem to be linked, but further research is necessary before we can confidently say why.

The human body can’t make its own B12. You must get this vital nutrient from food and supplements. The best B12 foods are mostly animal products like meat, dairy, and seafood. The only real plant sources are cereals and plant-based milk that have had B12 added during processing. If you follow a vegan diet, I highly recommend you consider B12 supplementation.

5. Zinc - A deficiency in zinc reduces the thyroid’s ability to secrete proper amounts of thyroid hormone and can result in a goiter. Conversely, zinc supplementation has a positive effect on thyroid health, increasing T3 levels in the body.

6. Unimate - Many of us have high insulin and insulin resistance. This leads to diabetes. How can we regulate our blood sugar and insulin? This helps supply your vitamin B1 supplement needs. Why do we need B1? How much b1 should we take for hypothyroidism?

It is recommended 600 mg per day for most people as a starting point. Studies have shown that a daily 600 mg dose of thiamine, for as little as three to five days, can produce benefits such as more energy, better brain function, stabilized blood pressure, and improved blood sugar tolerance.

This is not a one size fits all cure. Not everyone has high estrogen levels. Not everyone will have low progesterone levels. But these are conditions that are associated with an under-active thyroid. And again, I am not a doctor, so be sure to consult your health care practitioner before taking these treatments or supplements, as every need will differ, and every body is different.

They keep ridiculing me. What do I do?

Remember, if you are receiving hate on your Youtube channel, it isn't for no reason. Just remember that.

Wake up from the Matrix. Wake up, people! If they can't see how great of a person you are, they don't deserve you. They shouldn't be a part of your life!

If they can't see how hard you've worked just to get to where you are at today, and they're not proud of you? That's fine. Be proud of yourself! You know who pulled you out of that situation? You did! You know who picked you up when you were down? You did! You didn't have to depend on anyone to get you to where you are today.

You didn't have to say "Hey please help me! I'm falling apart here. I feel like the whole world around me is crumbling". No, they looked at you and continued walking, right? So what are you going to do? You are going to get up and you're going to keep moving. You don't get to sit there and allow everybody else's discrimination against you to make you bitter. You are a strong willed individual! And you should not change who you are for anybody! You are absolutely amazing. Remember that!

I hope to get success in getting my life back and I will do what it takes to do so. And I encourage all artists out there to do the same. Don't give into the unrealistic expectations that people will put on you as an artist. You don't have to measure yourself against this expectation shown in the mainstream media. You don't have to wait until you are absolutely perfect to be used of God, but also realize that not taking care of yourself should not be an option either. We still should strive to be the best version of ourselves that we can be!

Also realize that no matter how good you are or how 'perfect and flawless' you are, there is always going to be someone out there that is going to tell you that you aren't good enough. Remember that. Think about it. When people try to add insult to injury, it’s because you have something they want.

So glad to be one of those special people that don’t give up. Some dreams don’t happen overnight. You got to build em. Especially if you don’t have a support system backing you up. That’s ok. Do it anyway. It will be well worth it.

So, if your dream is to produce the most beautiful music the world has ever known, don’t let anyone’s doubt be what defines your success.

You don't have to wait until your absolutely perfect to be used of God!

So put your focus on what God's will is for your life, and let them talk. Build your dreams! You’ve got to believe in yourself, no matter what! And that includes learning to care for your body properly (and spirit).

Heavy metal detox: get rid of mercury in your system that disrupt your hormones:

Wild Yam Cream is a hormone free progesterone production inducing cream that has personally helped me. It helps stimulate the body to produce progesterone, naturally. Often hypothyroidism can be caused by estrogen dominance. Even if your estrogen is low, this Wild Yam Cream can help stimulate the production of progesterone, which is the happy hormone that levels out hormones such as estrogen in women and testosterone in men. This can be applied on the skin in a pea sized amount.

This Wild Yam Cream is what I used to cure my estrogen dominance and to level out my thyroid hormones to normal. An answer to my prayers. Praise God!

Remember, hormones have a significant role in weight management. If you're not getting enough thyroid hormone, you aren't getting the hormone production you need for a healthy metabolism.

Stay encouraged. Do your own research. Weight loss with thyroid problems is not a one size fits all solution! Keep that in mind!

I don’t think I will ever understand men who criticize a woman’s body for not matching whatever their preference is. Using words like “gross and disgusting”, as if everyone agrees with him. They certainly don’t. Most don’t. But what’s interesting to me is that while they are hee hawing arrogantly about how undesirable the woman in question is, they are actively showing that they are undesirable themselves. They think their ripped muscles entitle them to any woman they want . Amazing. When Scripture talks about a woman being a weaker vessel, the wording/context is referring to fine China. It is telling men to treat us like delicate treasures. That’s how God tells them to treat us. Not mock th…
