In a world drenched in neon lights and retro vibes, where the past and future collide in electrifying harmony, I unveiled my debut music album, Rainbow of Promise. For those who know me, this album was more than just a collection of songs—it was the realization of a dream born decades ago. But for others, the album cover sparked a controversy I hadn’t anticipated.

The Controversy

Rainbow of Promise album, album cover controversy, 90s nostalgia album, teenage dreamer story, honoring the past through music, retro music inspiration, overcoming music industry barriers, music journey story, debut album inspiration, middle-aged artist success, never too late to dream, modern music opportunities, faith-based music journey, bridging past and future in music, synthwave album storytelling, music dreams realized, personal music journey, nostalgic album cover meaning, underdog artist story, 80s and 90s music inspiration.

The cover of Rainbow of Promise features a picture of me at 13 years old, taken back in 1997. At first glance, some have questioned the intent behind this choice. One close friend raised a legitimate concern: “Will your audience understand why you’ve chosen this image? Will it be interpreted the way you intended, or will it send the wrong message?” These were fair points, and I’m here to address them.

To some, the image might seem like I’m trying to appear as I once was, or that I’m clinging to youth. Others may wonder if I’m attempting to misrepresent myself. But the truth behind the image is so much deeper, rooted in nostalgia and the story of a dream that began when I was that wide-eyed teenager.

Why This Picture?

Rainbow of Promise album, album cover controversy, 90s nostalgia album, teenage dreamer story, honoring the past through music, retro music inspiration, overcoming music industry barriers, music journey story, debut album inspiration, middle-aged artist success, never too late to dream, modern music opportunities, faith-based music journey, bridging past and future in music, synthwave album storytelling, music dreams realized, personal music journey, nostalgic album cover meaning, underdog artist story, 80s and 90s music inspiration.

The year was 1997. I was 13 years old, scribbling lyrics in notebooks, dreaming of standing on stages, and singing songs that would inspire others. Back then, I had no resources, no connections, and no idea how to turn that dream into reality. Recording studios were expensive, and the internet as we know it didn’t exist. Platforms like Spotify, SoundCloud, or even social media were still years away. The mainstream music industry was a fortress, accessible only to a select few. Back then, breaking in was akin to winning the lottery.

That picture represents the starting point of my journey. It’s not about posing as my younger self but honoring the teenage dreamer who laid the foundation for what I’ve accomplished today. It’s about looking back at how far I’ve come and celebrating the passion of that young artist who refused to give up.

Understanding the Choice

At first glance, the cover may not communicate this story. For someone encountering my music for the first time, the image might create confusion or set the wrong expectation. That’s valid criticism, and it’s something I’ve taken to heart. Here’s what I hope people will understand:

  1. It’s Nostalgia with Purpose: The image isn’t about clinging to the past; it’s about honoring the beginning of my journey. The songs on Rainbow of Promise include tracks I first wrote as a teenager. The cover ties these songs back to their roots.

  2. A Bridge Between Eras: The album symbolizes the fusion of past and future. It’s a time capsule of dreams that have finally been realized, thanks to the opportunities the modern era provides.

  3. An Overlooked Underdog: The picture represents a young artist who was underestimated, overlooked, and told her dreams were unrealistic. It’s a testament to perseverance and faith.

Moving Forward

While the cover of Rainbow of Promise holds deep personal meaning, I also recognize the importance of connecting with my audience as the person I am today. Future albums will feature current images of me, reflecting who I’ve become—a middle-aged artist still living for God and chasing dreams with the same passion I had at 13.

Why is this important?

  • Authenticity: Fans want to see the real me—the person behind the music, as I am now.

  • Relatability: Showing myself as I am today helps others see that it’s never too late to pursue a dream.

  • Transparency: It’s essential to bridge the gap between intention and perception, ensuring that my story is clear to those who join me on this journey.

A Message to the Dreamers

To anyone who feels like time has passed them by, let Rainbow of Promise be a reminder that it’s never too late. The world has changed. We have tools and platforms now that didn’t exist before. You don’t have to wait for someone to give you permission—you can create your own path.

Yes, I’ve been criticized. Yes, I’ve had to navigate misunderstandings. But that’s part of the journey. To all my listeners: thank you for taking the time to understand the story behind the cover. And to those who are still dreaming: keep going. It’s not too late for you, either.

The teenage dreamer on that cover may not look like the person I am today, but she’s still a part of me. She’s the reason I’m here, and she’s the one who first believed this dream was possible. Now, it’s my turn to take her vision and share it with the world.
